Make A Spending Plan

An article at BankRate.com recommends that you create a spending plan  to allocate your expenses and save money.  Start by tracking your expenses, to obtain accurate knowledge of your current spending patterns.  Often people are surprised at how the "little things" can add up to big expenses.

Then come up with a spending plan to achieve your goals.  Some good techniques are:

Spending plan ideas: 

  • Pay yourself first.  As soon as you get your paycheck, take some money and pay it to your own savings or investment account.  Read this MSN MoneyCentral article Pay Yourself First for more details.
  • Consolidate your debts into one low-interest loan if you can, and make regular payments on it over a fixed period.  Make sure you get the right kind of loan: this About.com article Consolidate Debt shows the right way to do it.
  • Cut up all your credit cards but one.  Also call up the credit card companies to cancel the cards.
  • Examine all your expenses and try to think of more ways to save money.
