Start Your Own Business, Save Even More!

It's easy and profitable for almost anyone to start a business, so there's no reason why you  shouldn't get a piece of business prosperity.  There are so many great reasons to start your own business, I think everyone should do it:

  • Make More Money, by promoting your business effectively, and running it efficiently.

  • Have fun, by converting a hobby or personal interest into a business.

  • Create value, by providing wanted goods and/or services.

  • Save on expenses, by taking advantage of wholesale prices and "corporate rates" that aren't available to everyday consumers.  Why let the corporations have all the breaks, when you can have them too?

  • Save on taxes, by deducting your business and home-office expenses, converting your hobby expenses to business expenses, and many other  tax write-offs that are only available to businesses.

You might think it's difficult to start a business, but many businesses are quite easy to start up.  In some cases, you can grab a software package, easily create an online store, and enjoy the benefits of your own business immediately.  Local regulations for small businesses vary widely and can be somewhat confusing, but they usually aren't a serious obstacle.  The local authorities will be happy to help you get started, so they can look forward to the tax revenue from your business.

Some people, even family and friends, will try to discourage you from starting a business.  But there's still good reason to at least try starting up a part-time business with low initial expenses.  Don't worry too much about failing; America is a kind and forgiving country, and you'll do fine if you treat people well and create a business that meets human needs.  You can start slow and with minimal expenses, test the waters of entrepreneurship, and when you know you can do it, dive in!  If you work diligently to make your customers happy, you can make your dreams come true.

Get Smart Advice Before You Jump In

Everyone makes a few mistakes when they first start a business.  Most mistakes are minor and you'll recover from them quickly.  I believe there are three mistakes that you must  avoid:

  • Overspending.  Make absolutely sure that the expense is worthwhile: "try before you buy", start with small expenses, and don't waste money on promotional methods that are unproven.

  • Undertesting.  Try to use marketing methods that have been tested by other entrepreneurs and found to work well.  Network with other people, but don't take their advice without seeing proof that it works.  Test the goods, services and methods that you plan to use.  If testing doesn't work, you will have saved a lot of time and money.

  • Lack Of Self-Development.  Always try to get better: be more strong-willed, smarter, happier, more charismatic, more virtuous.  Every salesman knows that when you're trying to sell something, you're really selling yourself.  If people don't like you and your company, they won't buy from you.
One way to dip your toes into the water is to get a free copy of Home Business Connection Magazine.  It will show you money-making businesses that you can operate from home, tell you about success stories of "average," ordinary people who are becoming rich from home, and it also contains free offers and samples.

What you may really need is an experienced mentor to bounce ideas off of.  I suggest that you try S.C.O.R.E. Online, the Service Corps Of Retired Executives.  Here's how to get in touch with them:
