If you're tired of high bank fees, odds are that you can get lower fees, lower loan rates, and earn higher interest rates by joining an online bank or a good credit union.  Most towns have one or more community credit unions that are open for membership to people who live in the community.  To search for a credit union you can join, include your community name in the search box below (e.g. "Seattle credit union", or the name of any city or large town near you.)  Then visit their sites to find out what their membership requirements are, to determine which ones you can join.

Virtually anything you can do with your local bank, you can do with an online bank.  You can ask your employer to deposit your paycheck automatically into the bank, or you can mail in checks to deposit.  You can get cash at most ATM machines.
